Useful Info and Tips
When we say we want to make Your Adventure in Scotland perfect for you, we mean in every aspect! Below is some info and tips and handy hints to help you plan the perfect trip!
Getting Here
There’s no denying that the Highlands are vast and at points remote; it’s part of what makes them so spectacular! It does mean, that getting here can be a challenge.
There is a decent rail network to get into the Highlands, either to Fort William, Inverness or Aviemore, and if you choose this option to come to Fort William, it is one of the most spectacular train journeys youre likely to take! There is also the option to fly into Inverness or Glasgow and hop aboard the City Link bus and arrive in the heart of the Highlands ready for your Adventures.
Getting About
Once you’ve arrived in the (sometimes) sunny Highlands, getting about is an adventure in itself! Renting a car is easy enough from any number of rental companies in the main hubs. This will mean you then need to book seperate accomodation in each place you stay and plan ahead as places fill up fast, even in the off season.
For slightly more flexibilty, and the ability to follow the weather, we would highly suggest renting a campervan for your travels. This provides a perfect base for future adventures and the ability to move if weather or whims dictate it. Whilst there is the opportunuty to park in many places in the Highlands, it is not always appropriate to stay overnight in parking spots and lay-bys. Always follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and if possible stay in one of the many campsites or Aires around the Highlands. These have great facilities for both Campervans and Motorhomes.

Where to Eat in Fort William
Fort William is the hub from which we base ourselves, and is the best place to live in the world (we’re not biased much…). There are a number of places to eat in town, for all budgets, we’re not sponsored or affiliated in any way with these companies, but do spend a fair bit of time in them when we’re not outside, so any enquiries about sponosorship are welcome…!
For the best Fish n Chips, Sammy’s in Coal is very hard to beat, there’ll probably be a queue but its worth the wait, trust us! Ask for a “Fish Supper” and you’ll get the classic.
Head into Fort William itself and walk along the highstreet, and there’s a great choice of locally owned eateries;
For a great pizza and a pint check out The Black Isle. It gets busy in the summer, and you can’t book a table, but they’re pretty slick and the pizza is worth the wait!
If you fancy something a wee bit fancier then The Geographer or The Garrison West are both lovely.
If you’re a real foody and want something a bit more special again, the sea food at The Crannog is constantly changing with the catch of the day and its locally caught sea food is some of the best we’ve ever tried!
Where to Stay in Fort William
There are loads of Hotels, Air Bnb’s, independent hostels and Campsites around Fort William. It’s definitely worth booking ahead throughout the summer and winter, and not leave it too late or you may be dissapointed. As we have recomended earlier that you stay in campsites if hiring a van, below are two, which are well placed as a stepping off point for adventures.
Campsites
Glen Nevis is a great base for Your Ben Nevis Adventure or Your Family Adventure and has a nice resteraunt to boot!
Red Squierrel Campsite is a good base for Your Scrambling Adventure, with good access to Glen Coe and is the finish point for the Aonoach Eagach.
Things to do in Fort William (other than have an adventure with us!)
Fort William is no longer a leaky back water, we are a part of the modern world with major supermarkets, and everything!
The Highland Cinema is a privately owned and a relatively new addition to the town. It boasts 2 screens, a cafe and screens the newest releases, definitely worth a visit of an evening if this is your thing.
Three Wise Monkeys is a locally run climbing wall, situated in town. The perfect place to spend a rainy day or evening!
